So, my sister suggested that I should start a blog about my costuming adventures a couple weeks ago after I got a call to work a short term, over-hire contract for Riverside Theatre, which I accepted. Subsequently, I've been kicking it for the past three weeks in the shine state, coincidentally it has been rainy most days since I arrived. The rain hasn't put a damper on our busily sewing fingers in the costume shop though and we're in good shape for tech rehearsals which start this week for Riverside's upcoming children's show, Poodleful. Poodleful is a brand new musical based on the book Pansy at the Palace by Cynthia Bardes. I got the opportunity to watch the designer run this past week with the rest of the costume shop crew and I have to say I think the kids are going to love it. It has a great message, some fun dog facts, dancing/singing animal characters, and of course some wonderful costumes. If you want to learn more about the show or Riverside Theatre you can check out their website at www.riversidetheatre.com. One of the most fun costume pieces I've worked on so far is a flared blazer for Frida who works the front desk at the Palace Hotel. I always enjoy a bit of tailoring and some nice stitching detail. Well, hope you enjoyed this first blog post and please drop back periodically for more updates on what's going on in my life as a costume technician.
ciao, Leanne
